Coral Gables firefighters and police officers will gather Friday, Sept. 11, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a public remembrance ceremony at Fire Station 1.
Fire Station 1 hosts public 9/11 ceremony
The ceremony runs from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at the station, 2151 Salzedo St., according to the city's event page. It is open to the public.
American Legion hosts evening Patriot Day program
That evening, American Legion Post 98 hosts a separate Patriot Day event at 7:30 p.m. at 303 Alhambra Circle. The guest speaker is retired Army Maj. Miguel Santana, a Purple Heart recipient and 25-year military veteran. Santana is the author of "Unheard Voices: The Fight for Ramadi," a memoir about the Battle of Ramadi.
City offices closed, most facilities open
All Coral Gables administrative offices and the Passport Acceptance Facility will be closed Friday for Patriot Day, the city announced in a Tuesday, Sept. 8, news release. Garbage, trash and recycling pickup runs on its normal schedule. City trolley and Freebee services also operate as usual.
Modified hours for recreation facilities
Most recreation facilities remain open on modified hours:
- War Memorial Youth Center: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Venetian Pool: 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Salvadore Tennis Center and William H. Kerdyk Biltmore Tennis Center: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Granada Golf Course: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Coral Gables Golf & Country Club and Athletic Club Fitness Center: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Athletic Club Pool: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Venue: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Adult Activity Center: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Le Parc Café: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Neighborhood Tennis: 7 a.m. to sunset
