The ride departs at 10 a.m. from the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Ave., and is led by Elvis Fuentes, director of the Coral Gables Museum. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for museum and Bike Walk Coral Gables members, Coral Gables city employees and children younger than 12. Museum admission is included.

Bike Walk Coral Gables is presenting the tour in partnership with the museum and Dade Heritage Trust, the countywide preservation nonprofit.

Tour highlights America's 250th anniversary

The ride is part of the Gables Bike Tours series, a monthly program held on the third Sunday of most months. Past editions have covered historic homes, the Biltmore Hotel, George Merrick's fountains and the city's tree canopy.

Organizers designed the July ride as a visit to local sites that commemorate the patriotic spirit of Coral Gables and its leaders, past and present. Rather than retracing Revolutionary War history, the tour uses the country's semiquincentennial as a framework for exploring how one city has expressed patriotism through planning, public service and civic memory, according to the Coral Gables Gazette.

Riders should bring their own bicycles

The ride is family-friendly and paced for a range of experience levels. Bike Walk Coral Gables volunteers will help guide the group.

Riders must bring their own bicycles in good working condition, along with water and sun protection. Helmets are required for children younger than 16 and encouraged for all participants.

Registration is available at bikewalkcoralgables.org/events or by calling 305-603-8067.

Museum exhibits continue after the ride

Back at the museum, riders can visit current exhibitions tied to the America250 theme, including "Local Leadership, National Legacy: Coral Gables Mayors Across a Century" and "Many Voices, One Nation: En Nuestras Palabras," developed with the Smithsonian Institution. A third exhibition, "The Traveling Fallen Soldier Memorial," is presented with American Legion Post 98.

Fuentes, who has led the museum since 2022, has described the institution as the only museum in South Florida dedicated to civic arts, a category he defines as architecture, urban design and visual arts within the built environment.
