A new Coral Gables group for mothers balancing careers and family launches Wednesday, Sept. 2 with a documentary screening at Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ, 3010 De Soto Blvd.
Trina Sargalski, a Miami native and PR professional, is calling the project The Responsible Ones. She built it for women who feel stretched thin between work and home and, as she put it, "can't let anything drop."
"I called this project 'The Responsible Ones' because it's about finding community and solutions for women who are juggling a lot, both in their personal and professional lives," Sargalski said in an announcement carried by Community Newspapers.
The evening centers on "No Country for Mothers," a documentary about the cost of child care and the policy gaps facing American mothers. Raeshem Nijhon directed the film. It was produced by Culture House Media, Moms First, Tan France's French Tuck Media and formula company Bobbie.
The documentary has been screened more than 1,000 times across all 50 states since its June 15 premiere in New York City. More than 2,500 mothers, caregivers and advocates signed on as associate producers, breaking a world record that had stood since 1991, according to Moms First, the national nonprofit behind the project.
The film is not available on any streaming platform. Moms First CEO Reshma Saujani told PBS NewsHour the choice was deliberate: the organization wanted mothers to watch together rather than alone at home.
