The University of Miami will return to Nike in July 2027 under a 10-year agreement reportedly worth more than $200 million, ending its 12-year partnership with Adidas. Miami-Dade County public high school athletic programs, however, will continue wearing Adidas under a separate contract.

The Miami Herald first reported the agreement in September, and The Associated Press confirmed its terms through a person familiar with the negotiations.

Nike and the university officially announced the partnership Sept. 18. The new arrangement begins after UM's Adidas contract expires June 30, 2027.

For Coral Gables Senior High, Miami Palmetto Senior High and South Miami Senior High, the university's change will not affect their existing apparel agreement.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools signed a separate five-year, $13.5 million partnership with Adidas in August 2025, covering 41 high schools in the Greater Miami Athletic Conference. That agreement is expected to continue through 2030.

Nike deal exceeds $200 million

The new agreement includes cash, athletic apparel and marketing components, according to the Associated Press.

Its reported value exceeds $200 million over 10 years, although Nike and UM did not disclose the financial terms in their official announcement.

The partnership also brings Miami into Nike's Blue Ribbon Elite program, which creates opportunities for college athletes to collaborate with the company on branding and other initiatives related to name, image and likeness rights.

Miami athletes will gain access to Nike's sports research resources, while the company plans to introduce apparel collections celebrating the university's athletic history.

The agreement represents a return to a partnership that began in 1987, when Miami became the first university to sign an all-sports apparel agreement with Nike.

The Hurricanes wore Nike uniforms during four football national championship seasons before switching to Adidas in 2015.

Miami-Dade schools remain with Adidas

While UM prepares to change brands, Adidas will continue supplying uniforms, apparel and equipment to Miami-Dade's public high school athletic programs.

The school district announced its partnership with Adidas on Aug. 18, 2025, during an event at Traz Powell Stadium.

The agreement covers varsity, junior varsity and feeder programs at all 41 Greater Miami Athletic Conference high schools.

It also included naming rights to the football field at Traz Powell Stadium, which became Adidas Field at Traz Powell Stadium.

Schools Superintendent José Dotres praised the partnership when it launched, saying it would have a transformative effect on student-athletes throughout the district.

The agreement provides a consistent apparel supplier across participating schools, replacing a system in which individual programs previously relied on various brands and funding sources for uniforms and equipment.

The university's Nike agreement is separate from the district's Adidas contract, and no change to the high school arrangement has been announced.

Hurricanes renew historic Nike partnership

Miami's relationship with Nike dates to 1987, when the university entered what became a pioneering all-sports apparel partnership in college athletics.

The Hurricanes remained with Nike for nearly three decades before beginning their Adidas agreement in 2015.

Their return comes as athletic apparel companies increasingly use university partnerships to build relationships with student-athletes and expand their presence in college sports.

Under the new agreement, Nike will supply Miami's athletic teams beginning in July 2027.

For local high school athletes, the distinction is straightforward: The Hurricanes will return to the Swoosh, while Miami-Dade public school teams will continue wearing Adidas under their existing districtwide agreement.
