Coral Gables residents 50 and older can choose from dozens of free lectures, demonstrations and workshops starting Monday, Aug. 17, when the city's Adult Activity Center kicks off its annual Senior Citizens Week.
The five-day lineup at 2 Andalusia Ave. runs through Friday, Aug. 21, according to the city's event listing. Most events are free with registration, though space is limited. One exception: a Monday afternoon DIY Flower Bouquet Workshop costs $20.

Monday opens with a SHINE/Alliance for Aging Medicare fraud presentation by Liliana Rey at 10 a.m., followed by a Dade County Federal Credit Union credit-score session at 11 a.m., a MindBalance Psychiatry lecture on mental health and aging at 1 p.m. and the bouquet workshop at 3 p.m.
Tuesday features Baptist Health talks on brain health, diabetes and nutrition starting at 10 a.m., a Coral Gables Sustainability Division presentation at 11 a.m., a Baptist Health Parkinson's disease presentation by Dr. Marmol at noon and a "Key to Healthy Aging: Blue Zones" lecture by Dr. Ariele Gallardo at 1 p.m.
Wednesday is the week's busiest day. Humana's "AI for Seniors" session with Ana Mazzei begins at 10 a.m., followed by a foot health talk from Dr. Jordan Katz at 11:30 a.m., a Florida State Attorney's Office fraud and human trafficking presentation by Mariangelli Fernandez at 12:30 p.m., an SEC scam-prevention session led by chief attorney advisor Lisa T. Roberts at 1:45 p.m. and a Crime Watch one-on-one property fraud prevention session at 3 p.m.
Thursday brings an estate planning presentation at 10 a.m., a Miami-Dade Public Library System gardening lecture by Monica Baugher at 11 a.m. and a University of Miami McKnight Brain Institute "Sleeping Smarter" talk at 12:30 p.m. The afternoon turns physical: Coral Gables police demonstrate self-defense techniques at 12:45 p.m., firefighters lead adult CPR training at 1:45 p.m. and pet CPR for service animals at 2:45 p.m.
The week wraps Friday with a DocTalk health lecture sponsored by CarePlus, a Bitcoin Lunch and Learn (lunch provided by The Palace) at 10:30 a.m., a Smartphone 101 class at 11 a.m. and a "Senior Smarts: Financial Protection" talk by Senior Citizens Advisory Board member Tom Wells and his wife Diane Wells at 12:30 p.m. The celebration closes with Senior Palooza from 1 to 3 p.m., featuring Cooking with Norma, a mobile golf simulator and refreshments marking National Senior Citizens Day.

Friday, Aug. 21 — Kids Club Parents Night Out. The city's recreation department is hosting a parents night out, though venue and time details have not yet been posted.
Saturday, Aug. 22 — Accessible Recreation Mud Day, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Venue details are pending on the city's event calendar.
Saturday, Aug. 29 — Parks Pollinator Palooza, 9 to 11 a.m. at the War Memorial Youth Center, 405 University Dr. The free, family-friendly event is co-hosted by Keep Coral Gables Beautiful and the Community Recreation Department. Families can build birdhouses, plant a butterfly garden, try the iNaturalist app to track local pollinators and earn volunteer hours. Register at playgables.com.
