Misha's Cupcakes is closing for good after 21 years in business, founder Misha Kuryla announced Oct. 21 in an Instagram video.

The Coral Gables-rooted bakery's miniature cupcakes, piled high with colorful frosting, became fixtures at birthday parties, baby showers and Milam's Market checkout counters across South Florida. The closure is permanent.

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but after 21 years, Misha's Cupcakes is signing off," Kuryla said in the video, as first reported by Miami New Times.

Kuryla did not state a reason for the decision.

Kitchen to institution

Kuryla started baking cupcakes in her home kitchen in 2005 while caring for her infant daughter, Ella, according to Miami New Times. After donating cupcakes to a charity event, she connected with her first wholesale customer.

She opened a kiosk at Dadeland Mall in 2007 and her first Coral Gables storefront in 2008. That same year, Miami New Times named Misha's its Best Cupcakes winner. By 2015, the business had expanded to multiple locations across Miami-Dade and Broward counties, offering more than 36 flavors and wholesale distribution at Whole Foods and Milam's Market.

In 2024, Kuryla opened a flagship bakery in the former Swensen's ice cream parlor space in Coral Gables. She closed her London Square location in December 2025 and shuttered the flagship in May 2026 before opening a pop-up in Coral Gables.

A Coral Gables staple

The brand earned a 2025 Commercial Beautification Award from the Coral Gables Sustainability Advisory Board, which recognized five local businesses for maintaining their storefronts. Misha's was among the winners alongside Andromeda District, Giralda Cleaners, The Plaza Coral Gables and Il Duomo Dei Sapori Restaurant.

In her farewell video, Kuryla reflected on the celebrations her cupcakes had been part of, recalling baby showers, weddings, milestones and promotions. She said she and her team had watched families grow over two decades.

Within minutes of the announcement, customers flooded the Instagram post with messages. One commenter wrote that Misha's had been "a staple in every family gathering" since the shop opened.

Fans looking for one last taste can find cupcakes at Clementine's Wine Gourmet, 2714 Ponce de Leon Blvd. in Coral Gables. The shop is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and closes Nov. 1.
