The city of Coral Gables launched a new online portal the week of July 14, combining the Business Tax Receipt and the Certificate of Use into a single account. Under the old system, business owners managed the two licenses separately, with different renewal timelines and paperwork. The new portal gives each business one renewal date, one invoice, and online access to applications, renewals, payments and records.
The city posted the announcement on its official news page Tuesday, directing all business owners to register on the portal "as soon as possible to ensure a smooth transition."
How to register
Business owners visit the city's new portal at coralgablesfl-energovpub.tylerhost.net, select "Apply," then choose "Business Licenses." Questions go to [email protected].
Why the timing matters
Under Chapter 66, Article 2 of the city code, the annual business tax is due on or before Oct. 1. The current tax period expires Sept. 30, and the renewal window runs from July 1 through Sept. 30. That means business owners are already inside the renewal window and need to be set up on the new system before the deadline hits.
Businesses cannot legally operate without both a valid Certificate of Use and a current Business Tax Receipt, according to city application materials. Owners who haven't registered by renewal time may face delays completing their renewal.
In-person help still available
The Finance Department's Collection Division, which handles business tax matters, remains open at 338 Minorca Ave., first floor, Coral Gables. The office can be reached at 305-460-5296 or [email protected].
Sept. 30 deadline looms without a hard registration cutoff
The city has not set a hard cutoff for portal registration, but the Sept. 30 tax-period expiration creates a practical deadline. Business owners who want to avoid last-minute complications should register well before that date.
