Citizens Financial Group has opened its first office in Miami-Dade County, planting a flag in downtown Coral Gables as the nearly 200-year-old Providence, Rhode Island-based bank expands its South Florida presence.

The office is at Alhambra Towers, 121 Alhambra Plaza, the South Florida Business Journal reported Tuesday, Aug. 4. The bank said it sees opportunity as South Florida grows into a major wealth and business hub.

Founded in 1828, Citizens is 198 years old and ranks as the nation's 18th-largest bank. It reported $226.4 billion in assets as of Dec. 31, 2025. The company operates approximately 1,000 branches across 14 states and Washington, D.C., with a network historically concentrated in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest.

Citizens is not the only financial institution choosing Coral Gables' central business district. Terrabank relocated its corporate headquarters to One Alhambra Plaza earlier in 2026, and City National Bank of Florida moved its Miami workforce to the former Bacardi headquarters on South Le Jeune Road this year. Coral Gables Magazine reported in July that the move involved about 900 employees.
