Four Frost School of Music alumni and faculty members are heading to the Latin Grammys this year, combining for 12 nominations at the 27th annual awards.
Producer and songwriter Federico Vindver, who earned his bachelor's degree from UM in 2008, leads the group with six nominations. All six stem from his work as co-producer and songwriter on Argentine duo CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso's album "Free Spirits," the university announced.
Vindver shares in the duo's nominations for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Alternative Album and Best Pop/Rock Song. He is also up for Producer of the Year, an award he won at the 2025 Latin Grammys.
That makes two straight years Vindver has been in the running for the top production honor.
Alumni and faculty add to the tally
Alumna Raquel Sofia, who graduated in 2009, earned her fifth career Latin Grammy nomination. She is nominated for Best Pop Song for "(favorito)," co-written with fellow songwriter nic. The Puerto Rican singer and songwriter has previously been nominated for Best New Artist, Best Traditional Pop Album, Best Singer-Songwriter Album and Best Pop Song.
Isaac Diskin, a 2021 graduate of the Frost School's Music Engineering Technology program, earned three nominations as a recording engineer on Spanish artist Rosalía's album "Lux." Diskin shares in nods for Album of the Year, Best Engineered Album and Record of the Year for the track "La Perla." Rosalía received seven nominations overall.
Faculty member Gonzalo Rubalcaba, a Cuban jazz pianist and composer with nine previous Latin Grammy nominations and three wins, earned two more. He is nominated for Best Latin Jazz/Jazz Album for "Gonzalo Plays Pino" and for Best Instrumental Album for "A Tribute to Benny Moré and Nat King Cole," shared with Joey Calveiro and Yainer Horta.
Scholarship ties strengthen Grammy pipeline
The Frost School's Latin Grammy pipeline extends beyond the stage. On Aug. 12, the school hosted the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation's scholarship ceremony for the third straight year at its Knight Center for Music Innovation. The foundation awarded $525,000 in scholarships to two incoming Frost students, Lea Garza and Melissa Cruz, as part of a broader $1.7 million package.
The 27th annual Latin Grammy Awards ceremony takes place Nov. 12 in Las Vegas. Univision will carry the live telecast.
