Coral Gables Senior High sophomore Xavier Arellano housed a 99-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The play sealed an 18-0 JV football shutout of the North Miami Beach Chargers at the Cavaliers' home field on Bird Road.

Arellano went the length of the field with the Cavaliers already in control. The Chargers never reached the end zone, and the Gables defense held North Miami Beach scoreless from start to finish.

The school's athlete spotlight, published Monday, Sept. 28, singled out Arellano for the fourth-quarter run. It is the first football feature in the school's fall spotlight series, which had previously highlighted volleyball and field hockey athletes. The spotlight identified Arellano as a sophomore on the JV roster but did not include additional game statistics.

CAVALEON, the student-run news account at Coral Gables Senior High, posted game-day photos by student photographer Catalina Gonzalez on Sept. 23. The account described the Cavaliers as bringing energy and teamwork throughout the contest and noted the 18-0 final score. The post drew 232 likes from the school community.

The 18-0 result comes from the student news account rather than MaxPreps, which does not appear to track Coral Gables JV football scores. No box score or individual statistics beyond Arellano's 99-yard run were available from the school's athletic department.

The Cavaliers' JV football team plays next on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 3:30 p.m. against Coral Reef at home.
