Coral Gables residents can choose from nearly a dozen events in September, spanning Caribbean food festivals, whiskey tastings, a new theater season and three literary evenings on Aragon Avenue, according to Coral Gables Magazine and event listings from local venues.

The month opens with two book events at Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave. Author Thomas Swick discusses his memoir "Falling Into Place" with Carlos Frías on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The free event marks the book's paperback release.

Booker Prize winner Marlon James appears at Coral Gables Congregational Church, 3010 De Soto Blvd., on Saturday, Sept. 5, to discuss his novel "The Disappearers" with fellow author Kei Miller. Tickets for two guests plus a copy of the book cost $32 plus tax; limited free admission is also available. The event is presented with SAVE.

Also on Sept. 5, the Coral Gables Adult Activity Center hosts a free screening of "An American in Paris" at Coral Gables Art Cinema, 260 Aragon Ave., from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Popcorn and a drink are included, courtesy of the Coral Gables Community Foundation.

Author John Radanovich brings his biography "Pérez Prado: King of the Mambo" to Books & Books on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. The free talk traces the Cuban bandleader's career from Cuba to Mexico City and Los Angeles.

The Miami Whisk(e)y Mash returns for its 11th year on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Coral Gables Country Club, 990 Alhambra Circle. Guests can sample more than 100 whiskies alongside cigars, live music and bites from local restaurants. VIP entry starts at 4 p.m.; general admission opens at 5 p.m. Tickets start at $87.07.

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden hosts its Taste the Caribbean Festival on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The lineup includes live reggae and calypso, cooking demonstrations, tropical fruit seminars, a dominos tournament and an Island Market with Caribbean food vendors. Adult tickets start at $24.95.

Bike Walk Coral Gables and the Coral Gables Museum team up for Gables Bike Tours on Sunday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to noon. The guided ride explores the city's parks and green spaces, including highlights from The Underline. Riders must bring their own bikes. Tickets are $10, or $5 for museum members and children under 12.

GableStage opens its 28th season with "Weather Girl," a dark comedy about a TV meteorologist whose on-air optimism unravels as her forecasts worsen. Performances run Friday, Sept. 25, through Sunday, Oct. 18, at GableStage at The Biltmore, 1200 Anastasia Ave. Showtimes are Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with Wednesday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $60.

The month closes with a double bill on Saturday, Sept. 26. Coral Market brings vintage shopping to the historic Merrick House, 907 Coral Way, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organizer Carolina Castro proposed expanding the market from twice a year to quarterly at a Merrick House Governing Board meeting in May, noting that "more than 800 visitors toured the house during the previous market." On Friday, Sept. 25, Fairchild opens its gates for Moonlight at Fairchild from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., with lantern-lined trails, stargazing with astronomers and cocktails at the Star Bar. Tickets start at $35.
