A burglary at a Coral Gables couple's home has exposed a sprawling criminal enterprise, Police Chief Ed Hudak announced Friday, Aug. 28.

Henry Parra, 55, and Adam Hlavaty, 42, were among seven people killed Aug. 19 when a helicopter crashed in Samburu County, Kenya. Police allege suspects Geybert Alexander Garcia, 40, and Melany Perdomo, 24, broke into the couple's Valencia Avenue home between Aug. 20 and Aug. 22, stealing more than $500,000 in artwork, jewelry and electronics, along with a 2023 Range Rover and a 2020 Porsche Taycan.

At the suspects' home on the 8300 block of Northwest 195th Terrace in Miami-Dade County, officers recovered boxes of fake driver's licenses and passports, at least 20 stolen car key fobs and a dozen firearms, Hudak said at a joint press conference with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, ATF, the Diplomatic Security Service and the Secret Service. The Miami Herald first reported the full scope of the findings.

"We have basically kicked a beehive of a criminal enterprise," Hudak said.

A fake ID bearing Parra and Hlavaty's address was still loaded in a printer at the suspects' home, according to Hudak. The couple died on a Wednesday. By the following Monday, fake IDs using their address had already been printed, he said.

Hudak said the suspects knew to go behind the home's liquor cabinet to disable the security system. He said investigators cannot rule out whether the suspects had inside help.

The passport fraud prompted the Diplomatic Security Service to join the case. Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office spokesperson Tiffany Wesley said a stolen truck with a California plate found during the search led detectives to five additional stolen vehicles, CBS News Miami reported. Two of the recovered firearms have been confirmed stolen. Garcia faces additional charges tied to the firearms and vehicles.

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle called the targeting of the grieving families "shocking and unfathomable."

Both suspects remain held without bond at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges including burglary and grand theft. A judge upheld the no-bond order at a pre-trial detention hearing Aug. 27. At an earlier bond hearing, Garcia's attorney presented a purportedly notarized document claiming Garcia had permission to enter the home and possess the vehicles. Family friend Lauren Bailey and Coral Gables Police Detective Wilfredo Diaz both testified the document was fraudulent, Local 10 reported. Perdomo was also detained on an immigration hold.

Parra, a U.S. Navy veteran, co-founded Gables-based aviation-software company Trax. Hlavaty, a real estate executive, co-founded MRKT Group and served on the Coral Gables Museum board.

Hudak warned the investigation is far from over. Detectives are working to contact additional victims whose stolen identities may be among the boxes of documents recovered. He said more arrests are expected.

Garcia and Perdomo are scheduled for arraignment Sept. 28 in Miami-Dade court.
