New York mystery writer Charles Salzberg brings his psychic-thriller "The Beginning of Everything" to Books & Books on Miracle Mile on Tuesday, Aug. 4, for a free evening conversation and book signing.
The event begins at 7 p.m. at the bookstore's 265 Aragon Ave. location. Mystery writer Traci Hall will join Salzberg as his conversation partner for the hour-long program.
Salzberg's novel, published July 14 by Regalo Press ($18.99), follows protagonist Josh Green, a man who has secretly lived with psychic visions since childhood that reveal other people's pasts. When his best friend's college-age stepdaughter goes missing, Josh must use his ability for the first time to help find her.
The book has landed on multiple bestseller lists since its release. It debuted at No. 38 on the USA Today Best-Selling Booklist and ranked No. 10 on the Southern California Independent Booksellers Alliance paperback fiction list for the week of July 26, according to the Los Angeles Times. It also appeared on the Washington Post and Los Angeles Daily News bestseller lists.
"Woke up to two pieces of good news this morning," Salzberg wrote on Facebook in July after learning of the placements. "My novel, The Beginning of Everything, has made USA Today's Best-Selling Booklist. And...it also made the Los Angeles Daily News's Best-Selling list."
Salzberg began writing fiction after a career in magazine journalism, with bylines in Esquire, The New York Times, GQ, and Travel + Leisure. He is best known for the Henry Swann private-investigator series; the first installment, "Swann's Last Song," earned a Shamus Award nomination from the Private Eye Writers of America. He is also a founding member of the New York Writers Workshop and has taught writing at Sarah Lawrence College, Hunter College, and Syracuse University.
Hall, his conversation partner Tuesday, writes the Scottish Shire mystery series and co-writes the Salem B&B mystery series under the name Traci Wilton. She also publishes the Irish Castle mystery series as Ellie Brannigan.
The event is free. An RSVP through Eventbrite grants general entry, but seating is not guaranteed, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early. Copies of the novel will be available for purchase and signing.
